My wife and I with be on a two week trip, starting in Paris CDG and driving around Normandy. According to Rick's France Tour Book, our US credit cards will likely not work. Has anyone had recent experience with this even with the newer chip cards which we now have?
Still the same old problem. Our chip and signature cards are not the same chip and pin - even if you have a pin for cash advance. There have been some reports that the Am cards will work - sometimes - Ours did not. I would make sure you have enough cash for back up if the card doesn't work.
Go to the green line that indicates you can use cash - you can try to use a credit card but always have coins and small bills as a backup in case your card doesn't work.
Just back from 2 1/2 months driving all around France (and Spain). My Chase chip card worked at every single toll booth.
Last fall we found that our chip/sig obsolete American card worked in toll booths in the south but not in the area just south of Paris. We haven't tried Normandy. The toll roads are run by a bunch of different companies so they are not consistent.
The Chip/sig cards work everywhere people are doing the transaction and they work in a lot of machines e.g. metro, Louvre, but not all.
