Franche - Comte

I decided to travel to Burgandy and Franche - Comte' in the first half of May (I do not know what year). From Besancon, I wish to go, in a rental car, south for one or two days. I wish to see the countryside. Which direction is best :
1) Go south from Besancon to Ornans and on the D67 to the Valley of the Loue ?
or
2) Go south from Besancon, on N 83 to Lons-le Saunier ?

I don't know if there's an answer. We were interested in the track of Gustave Courbet, so we went to Ornans, and the actual Source de la Loue. It's very pretty. We had two other targets, Restaurant Maison Pic, in Valence, and relatives in Geneva. We managed to spend a night in a renovated-cave (?) room run by the luxury hotel in the stone medieval town of Perouges, which was very scenic. Valence is not a scenic town, but the restaurant was great, and I believe female-chef-owned, soon to open a place in New York City.
