France Vacation

I’m looking to go to Europe in 2 summers (I’ve never been). I am wanting to do France. My plan is to do 4 nights in Paris. Then take the train to Avignon and stay for 2 nights there. One of the days I’d got to Arles and one of the days tour of lavender fields. Lastly I’d take a train to Nice and stay for 3 nights.

I have seen a lot of people saying to minimize the amount of places u should go to. But would this be doable??

Only two nights in Avignon and you are doing day trips from there. Give Avignon st least two nights before adding day trips.

Two nights is only one full day for sightseeing. So you would need to do one of your day trips on arrival or departure day, and figure out what to do with luggage.

That's doable in the summer; the days are a lot longer over there, the sun rises at 5 and doesn't set until almost 10 pm. It takes about 3 hours from Paris to Avignon on the train, just take one leaving in the 6am hour. What you could do is request an early checkin into your hotel in Avignon or most hotels with a later checkin will hold your bag until checkin time. You could also ask the concierge to hook you up with a tour. We booked a half day 4 hour van tour of the area easily through the Tourist Information Center in Avignon. They also had full day 8 hour van tours.

The train from Avignon to Nice will take about 4 hours. That gives you 2-1/2 days in Nice, which is plenty for Nice itself unless you feel the need to go to every one of its many art museums. However, most people go to Nice as much to see some of the surrounding coastal towns and hill villages as to see Nice itself. If you want to do much in that regard, 3 nights is just not going to be adequate.

I'd say the same thing about 2 nights Provence. I think you're giving the area short shrift with your plans.

Sometimes it's better to spend more time in one place. It takes more time than one might imagine to change hotels. It's not just the time spent on a train or a bus; you must pack up, check out of your hotel, get to the train or bus station, and then you must repeat that process at the destination.

Where will you be before Paris? After southern France?
