France -Switzerland

Will be arriving in Nice for two or three weeks this October. Would like to travel by train to Grenoble, Lyons, we would like to spend about four days in Switzerland (limiting time because of cost). We would take the train from Lyons and would like to do a loop over the four days. We have never been to this area (other than Nice). Any suggestions would be very helpful.

How about Lyon-Geneva by train, then pick a place on the lake for a few days, such as Lausanne or Montreux. The vineyards above Vevey are gorgeous at that time of year. I was there last October and it was the warmest October on record, stunning weather. Great hiking above the lake. You kinda get a bit of everything and don't have to practice a different language.

Is there any specific reason for you to go to Grenoble? Grenoble is OK, but there isn't that much to see there: a few cute streets and squares downtown, a good art museum, and the Bastille cable car and viewpoint.
I would much rather break the journey from Nice to Lyon in Aix or Avignon instead.
