I'm planning a trip to France and will fly into Paris for a couple of days. We'd like to eat our way through the country, but we like to linger 2- 3- days in each place and need about 12 days. We'd prefer a smaller village than a big city and would like to be able to meander around after dinner. We've been to Bordeaux and we've been to Provence. We're looking for gastronomy and charm... Where now?

If food is the focus, my first thought is Burgundy, which combines well with Alsace. Burgundy is best with a car, IMO, but can be seen without.
