France-Paris February

Hello,
Thinking of visiting France in Feb with our 12 year old and 9 year old. Thoughts if that is a good idea or too cold. We will do museums, gardens etc. would like to include Nice and Monte Carlo. Is it possible to use trains? Any thoughts/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also how much time should we spent in Paris?

A winter break trip? I always worried about the weather and traveling in February since I worked in the school system, seems silly now. Anyway, one year we went for it and visited Rome for the week. We thought we would do a few days trips but we were having such a great time and there were so many sights, we decided to just stay in Rome. It was cold but no where near freezing. One big advantage we didn’t plan on, since the weather was cooler, was how much easier it was to walk long distances. Without the hot sun beating down on us we found we had a spring in our step and walked further without complaints. I can’t comment about Paris, finally going next April, but we will be there about 10 days and we plan on a day trip to Versailles.

How much time do you have? I LOVE Paris and can easily spend 2 weeks or more there at a time. I doubt you have that long for school break, lol and you want to go other places, so total amount of time matters.

"Too cold" truly depends on you and what you all can tolerate. It would not be too cold for me but I live in North Idaho and enjoy cold weather. If you live in FL you might find anyplace north of the Alps too cold in winter. I've been to Paris in late March and while I was comfortable in a long sleeve shirt and a puffy vest the locals still had on winter coats and wooly scarves on the metro, lol!!

It’s not a winter break but just a getaway. 2-3 weeks would be what we can do. We are not from FL lol can tolerate cold. Just want to make sure all places are open and we won’t miss a ton, otherwise will make it a summer trip.

Oh, well for Paris, yes everything would be open but the gardens would be less than the best.

Here is a short but nice stroll in the Luxembourg Gardens that RS guide Veronique posted last February. I think it might have been toward the middle or end of Feb. It will give you an idea of what things were like that particular day.

And yes, should have mentioned trains would be great to use for getting down south. Depending on where you live you might consider flying directly to Nice spending some time there and then ending in Paris for a week before you fly home. If you have 2-3 weeks, then I would definitely do a week in Paris.

We have been to Paris just about every month with the exception of august and February is pretty close to the top as far as times to go. Everything is open but there are far fewer tourists. Very easy to get around and no issues finding availability in restaurants and museums. It can be on the cold side but nothing that a medium jacket and a scarf couldn’t handle

Been there twice in Fab. and in March and it's the best.
Very few tourists, no lines, and lovely meals in cosy cafes.
