I really recommend that you take one of the van tours of the D-Day beaches. You will see much more than if you try to navigate to the sites by yourselves, plus you'll have the benefit of a guide. I used Overlord Tours, most of whose trips begin I Bayeux, but there are other options. Otherwise, I traveled by train and bus, but a car would definitely provide more flexibility in Normandy. Others can suggest where you might pick up a rental car. You don't need to drive all the way from Paris if you prefer to take the train.

If you want suggestions about flights, you'll need to tell us where you live. The time of year would also be useful.

Most day tours of the beaches -- absolutely essential, in my opinion -- leave earlier than the first train from Paris arrives in Bayeux. You need to go a day ahead (or to Caen, which offers a wider choice of accommodations, and the Peace museum which runs its own tours.) https://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/

I agree that by far the best approach is to head up to Normandy and spend the night in Caen or Bayeux the day before the tour. I preferred to stay in Bayeux immediately before the tour for logistical reasons. Bayeux is small and the ride from Caen is quick, but the Bayeux train station isn't particularly close to the departure point for the tours. Edited to add: Nor is the tour departure point a piece of cake to locate.

You could spend a full day at the Peace Museum in Caen. Bayeux has a smaller WW II museum, plus the Bayeux tapestry. There's rail and bus service (generally better from Caen, I believe) to some of the coastal towns to the east, including Deauville/Trouville and Honfleur, so there's enough to keep you occupied in that area for quite some time. Without a car, I found it convenient to split my time between Bayeux and Caen to reduce the amount of time spent reaching my day-trip destinations.

In a pinch, the Overlord Tours website indicates that the company offers a compressed full-day tour departing from the Caen railroad station just late enough for people to take the train up from Paris the morning of the tour. I do not know how often that tour actually runs, and it would mean a very, very early start from Paris, plus a rather late return to the city. I'd think carefully about what such a long day might do to my energy level the day after the tour.

Well if you want to possibly bring some beer back like I did this summer I would suggest you fly from your hometown to Paris and chose a return flight from from Brussels. Take the train as suggested from Paris to Bayeux, which is a nice town to stay a couple a days. Once in Bayeux buy a tour of D-Day Beaches. Then back to Paris where you can get a train direct to Brussels. From Brussels you can go direct Bruges. There are some brewery tours but I know you need to rent car if you want to do it yourself to reach the breweries

We (seniors) enjoyed a reasonably priced rental apartment in Bayeux (VRBO, as I recall; not AirBB) which was an excellent base; We also engaged a highly-rated, all-day private D-Day guide who picked us up at (and returned us to) our lodging. The latter, while a splurge, was an excellent value as we didn't need to worry about driving, navigation or parking, and he tailored the stops to our interests and preferences. Let me know if you want details. We can send a PM with details; we don't want to appear like advertising agents for these services on the Forum but are happy to pass along what we learned if you're interested.
