France Med Cruise Portion

Hello, my family and I are going on a Western Mediterranean Cruise in March. It is myself, my wife, and our two 15 year old daughters. We've been to Europe before and have traveled on our own but this is our first Med Cruise. One of the stops in in Marseille, and we'll
be there from 8am to 5pm. I've been looking at excursions that the ship is offering but none of them are very interesting. Our family enjoys museums, shopping for art, site seeing, and good food. I've also looked up some of the things that there is to do in this port but if anyone can offer any other good ideas or things that they've discovered at these locations, that would be great.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

March can be hit or miss due to the Mistral winds that blow about every third day in March. If you sign up for a cruise tour and the wind is blowing, you have no flexibility. In March you need a plan A and a plan B, depending on the weather. There's plenty to do in Marseille, as you can tell due to your own research. If the wind is blowing, you'll want to plan more indoor time and figure how to get from one site to another most easily. In a different season, I'd add Cassis or Aix-en-Provence to the suggestions, but you'd be outside a lot.

Have you had a look at RS Med Cruise Ports book?

There are some cute shops in the area around the port, on the right side as you face the water.

Try googling "Marseilles shore excursions" for more options, as well as "things to do in Marseilles". We found things to do in ports by doing this when the ship's offerings were (a) too expensive or (b) boring.
