France in April - deciding dates and other questions

Thinking of taking advantage of Air France specials for April and need to book asap as the fares just keep going up.

1. Does it much matter what part of April you go? I have been just about every other month, but not April.

  1. Since Easter is April 17 this year, will a lot be closed down for Friday, Sat. and Sunday?

  2. Thinking of flying into Nice via Paris and home non-stop from Paris. The Paris to Nice connection Air France has at one hour. Doable out of CDG? Flight gets into Paris at 8:30 AM. We have carry-on only and it is a through ticket booked through AF. Will not be two separate tickets to Nice.

  3. It's been a while since we looked at the COVID rules. Are they still requiring at PCR test 24-houses before travel and the Passe Sanitaire when you get there? Everything changes so quickly.

  4. We are both triple vaxxed, and one of us just got over COVID breakthrough case. Would it be beneficial to get a note from the Dr. that we also recovered from COVID recently as well?

  5. For those who have flown AF, assuming this statement means you will get your money back if you cancel and not just a voucher?
Your flight is scheduled as planned but you no longer wish to travel?
If you purchased your ticket before March 1, 2022, and if your flight is scheduled on or before June 30, 2022, you can request a refundable voucher or a cash refund* before the departure date of your first flight, depending on the fare conditions of your ticket.

  1. No, May is the month with closures.

  2. 1 hour is a short connection time, but AF has flights to NCE every few hours.

  3. The only requirement for entry is 3 covid shots, the 3rd being a mRNA vaccine. The pass sanitaire is now the pass vaccinal, requiring 3 covid shots, the 3rd being a mRNA vaccine. The pass vaccinal requirement may be relaxed or expired by April.

  4. Covid recovery statements are only valid for those participating within the French national healthcare network.

5 The refund is in the form of a voucher.

2 I have made the 1-hour Paris - Nice connection. I'm old and slow but was in the front of the plane. It's a commuter flight. There will be another if you get stuck

What Tocard and Bets have said.

All things being equal, I would come later in the month, as weather gets generally better — but of course on any given days (that you are here) you might run into rainy or dreary days.

Monday April 18 is a French holiday, but if you don't need to go to the post office or a bank, it shouldn’t matter too much.

I'll just add that the Air France voucher is a refundable voucher. You need to go through a second hoop to turn the voucher into cash, but it is still relatively straightforward - I have done it twice already, and it was quick!

I recommend not arriving in Nice on May 1, when (based on my 2017 experience) you will find no public transportation running and very few--conceivalby zero--taxis at the airport.

I made a conscious decision to avoid changing planes at CDG, based on forum comments, so I can't provide personal experience there.

Whew good news balso. I had told my son to book via Air France rather than Delta due to the reimbursement policy but then saw the words "in the form of a voucher" later. Ouf.

So for those of you that have flown Air France - question. I have our tickets on hold for two days while I continue to look around. We are flying the 777-300 in economy for now. In looking at the seats, does anyone know if row 30 is a true bulkhead row or just seats that has an exit door. We are really trying to get bulkhead so no one is in front of us.
BTW, those good deal Air France deals go up and up every time we go online. They have jumped $75 in the last day.

Have you looked on Seat Guru, JR? AF has four configurations for the 777.-300. I don't see any with row 30 as bulkhead. Remember that with bulkhead, you could be moved to accommodate a parent who needs a bulkhead because bassinets are attached to the bulkhead

The last time we flew the AF 777 in economy, we opted for the duo seats way in the back of the plane. My son chose the same seats back the

Thanks Bets. And yes I am familiar with Seat Guru. In doing research, we read that the best seats are row 29JK, 35 JK or 39 JK which is an exit row that doesn't really look like it on seat guru. I am hoping I can use CC points to upgrade but we shall see.

Started looking at hotels, and whoa! Rates are insane for Easter Weekend and a lot of places sold out that weekend including our favorite place!

Yes, there are fewer holiday weekends this year because the usual May holidays are Sundays, so the remaining ones are likely to be very busy...
I hope you find somewhere you like and can afford!

3 The requirement for a test if coming from the US was just dropped.

5 We booked a trip on AF for last September. Yes, you can get a refund, not just a voucher, but it entailed a very very long wait on the phone, at least it did last August when we canceled.

We’re currently booked for three weeks in France, arriving on April 17th, on AF again.

I'm sorry your favorite place is sold. I usually stay in the 7th which I know is not particularly popular with some and 2 of my "regular" hotels have vacancies and the rates don't look much different than they usually are - one is around 225E for a Superior Double with no breakfast.

Thanks everyone for your help! We have booked, and decided to go after Easter to avoid the high prices and crowds. Flying to Nice then home from CDG. Never been to the Nice area, so suggestions welcome! Only really want to spend a day or two there before perhaps heading up to Provence, via train. Please share must see's and do's! Thanks!

What's your overall timeframe?

Nice itself is a lovely city to visit for a day or two. It has several good museums (Chagall, Villa Masséna, Mamac spring to mind; Matisse was a disappointment), a charming old town, great scenery.
Nearby Eze is a very worthwhile half-day trip.

Other nearby attractions would required more than 2 days.

We have a week in the area (7 nights) before heading to Paris. Looking where the best place to catch the train back to Paris would be. Don't really want to spend too much time in Nice. We have an hour layover in Paris before before flying to Nice so first night will be chill. Two nights in Nice? Booking.com lists all kinds of areas, can anyone recommend one area over another? Also should we consider staying near the train station since we will be getting around via train? Is it a decent area? Thinking of a day trip the next day to Cannes, Antibes - thoughts? Or go straight up to the Provence area> This is where we really need help! Thanks!
