When is the best time to see the lavender in Provence? I read the last week of June is the time to go. I am flying into Paris for a stay then train to Burgundy for a stay and on to Provence for a stay. Already have reserved places but have options as to when to arrive and length of time to stay. How long should I stay in each place? Also does it make sense to try to go to Corsica for the jazz fest in June 15 -21 2016. I have 3 weeks maybe 1 month. Would you take a flight to Corsica and from where do you fly from and what airline? Also where to fly out of to get back to USA? I guess I need itinerary help! Thank you. Linda
I would think the first 2 weeks of July would be peak for Lavender.
Perhaps 6 - 7 days in each: Paris - Corsica - Burgundy - Provence.
Easyjet as well as Air France fly Paris - Ajaccio - Lyon (for Burgundy)
Sounds heaven, very relaxing.
Hi, Linda. The lavender season in Provence is June to August. I'd give Paris and Provence the most time. Actually, I'd skip Burgundy and Corsica altogether. You can take lavender tours and you can actually stay at lavender farms in Provence.
Googling, I see the Corsica jazz festival is in Calvi, which has its own airport. Here's the airport's Wikipedia page, showing destinations available nonstop from Calvi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvi_%E2%80%93_Sainte-Catherine_Airport. From Provence, both Nice and Marseille will have flights to Calvi, as well as to the other three Corsican airports (Ajaccio, Bastia, and Figari).
To find schedules and airlines for flights within Europe like these, use Skyscanner, and remember that you want to book as far in advance as possible to get cheap fares: http://www.skyscanner.com/
None of Corsica's airports have nonstop flights to the US, so you'll need to change (probably in Paris, which will have the most options). When booking your transatlantic flights, use the "multi city" option (rather than "one way" or "round trip") to, for instance, fly from Detroit to Paris, then from Calvi to Detroit, all on one ticket. My favorite sites for transatlantic flight searches are Kayak http://www.kayak.com/flights and Matrix ITA http://matrix.itasoftware.com/, but I prefer to book direct with the airline itself if possible.
Thank you all for the excellent responses. All are extremely helpful and useful. Linda
