Good morning,
Heading to France June 3- 10 to watch my husband jump into Normandy (active duty Army). The jump is on June 8. I had planned to spend the 8-10 at Normandy. I have been to Paris and Versailles a couple of times. Where else can I see June 4-8? I plan to utalize the train and rent a car (flying into CDG). I will only have a back pack so it should be easy traveling. Thanks to all my fellow travelers.
With a car, I'd drive to Giverny and Les Andelys - to hike up to the castle of King Richard the Lionhart and admire the views. Perhaps Honfleur and then along the coast to Deauville, Trouville sur Mer & Port-en-Bessin. Or perhaps take the Route de Fromage through the cheese and calvados heartland.
Within France, Burgundy is at hand, as is Brittany (not sure about the weather for that in June). Lyon and even Provence are a bit farther but still feasible thanks to the fast train. An open-jaw itinerary would help, but you can be in most of these places by lunchtime the day you arrive at DeGaulle.
The fast train also puts Alsace within reach.
I wouldn't want to go much farther that any of that, hence no Catalonia, Dordogne, Alps, Amsterdam, or Cote d'Azure.
A friend of mine mentioned this place to us http://www.ot-montsaintmichel.com/index.htm but realized that with our time frame & the area we must travel due to why we are there that we would not be able to get there this trip. Perhaps it would interest you....she says it is phenomenal!
Go see Mont Saint Michel and shoot over to Cancale for some oysters and shrimp!
These are great suggestions. Thank you. I will look more into them. :)
you know that Normandy will be booked full this June because of the landing events so be sure you have lined up lodging at each place you plan to be.
