Walk up to the entrance. Buy a ticket. It couldn't be more simple.

There are not tickets to Mont St Michel -- there are tickets for the Abbey which are available at the Abbey

No need for advance tickets. Just walk up to the abbey and buy them when there. The island itself doesn't require a ticket.
