France, CDC Card, and Different Last Name

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are heading to Paris in a few weeks to celebrate our delayed honeymoon. We're both fully vaccinated, but since getting vaccinated, my wife changed her last name. Since we won't be able to get the Pass Sanitaire based on the website no longer working, any ideas on if the different last name on the CDC card and passport will be an issue? Should we just carry her old passport as well just as a precaution or take a copy of our marriage license? Greatly appreciate any help!

Does anyone check ID along with the CDC card in Paris? I've never seen it. The only time I have ever had to show both ID and a vaccine card was in San Francisco at a coffee shop. When I was in Paris in September, I never saw anyone who matched a CDC card to ID. I had the pass but in some places that I went Americans who were there had only their CDC cards.

It doesn't matter what anyone here thinks. You need to hear from someone official. Contact your closest French consulate for advice.

Saying "but the people on the Rick Steves Forum said it was okay" would not fly as an excuse.

Restaurant & café staff in this country do not have the right to check your ID (except for age verifications in establishments which minors cannot enter), so no issue there. Same for museums, theaters, etc.
It becomes an issue on long-distance trains, however (tickets need to have the right name on them). Perhaps a driving license or other photo ID with your wife's maiden name can do the trick there, but I am not sure.

It’s not a problem. They have never checked my I.d. against my card. They should, in order to confirm that the name on the card is the name of the person holding it, but they never do.’

However, bring the old passport as a backup. Or, at least a photocopy.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I reached out to the Walgreens where my wife received her vaccine and they'll reprint her CDC card with her updated name. Should avoid any potential issues that way.
