France (and a bit of Italy) road trip in july

What do you think about that for a 25 nights road trip in july :

Arrival in Bordeaux (2 nights)
Pyrénées (3 nights)
Carcassonne and Narbonne (2 nights)
Nîmes (4 nights): daytrip to Carmague, pont de Gard and Avignon from there
Luberon (3 nights)
Nice (2 nights) daytrip to Monaco
Coastal Liguria (only the first part after Monaco and before Genoa: 2-3 nights)
Turin (3 nights)
Vanoise mountains (2 nights)
Lyon (1 night…we have already been there last year)

return home !

Very good, fast, but you and your family are experienced and know what you are doing. One change: replace your day trip to Avignon with Uzès. Although Avignon is famous for the papacy, there’s not much left to see. You don’t give the dates but the theatre festival could be going on turning the city into a madhouse. Uzès was forgotten by time, hence preserved and restored. Incredibly interesting. We stayed there 5 months. The water source for the Pont du Gard is below the town in a parc in the Valley of the Eure. And the Haribo candy “museum” is down the hill from Uzès, too. Kids will love it.

I imagine your trip is earlier in July so this won't be an issue, but keep in mind if traveling July 24* or later to check against the schedule for Olympics football matches to be held in Bordeaux & Lyon.

  • Not a typo. Although the Olympics opening ceremony is July 26, the first slate of football matches will occur on July 24 (and continue on July 25).
