France 9 day itinerary: Nice, Paris, Riviera, Provence, Alps, Burgundy

Hi,

For a 9 day trip, Rick recommends "a one-way trip, such as flying into Nice and out of Paris, seeing the Riviera, Provence, the Alps, and Burgundy along the way"

Does anyone have specifics on how this would work - transportation, suggestions, days in each, etc?

It seems like a lot to cram in! We are looking to fly into Nice and out of Paris in late June.

Thanks!

It is a lot. It is way too much. How many nights in your 9 day trip will you spend in France? Have you been to France before? What types of things are of most interest to you while there? What time of year? With such a very short time, I'd pick 2 or at most 3 places to visit as a starting point.

We spent a month going from Paris to ending in Nice. We spent a week each in Paris, Burgundy, Provence and Nice/Cote d’Azur. It was wonderful!

In 9 days/10 nights in France you could reasonably do Nice 3-4n - Burgundy 2n - Paris 4-5n, travelling by train all the way.
Or Nice 3n - Avignon 3n - Paris 4n, also by train
Or just 4n Nice and 6n Paris, with a train or a flight between the two.
But certainly not adding the Alps!

We are a family of five - with two teenagers and a 10 year old. We mostly want to do Paris but could add another spot. We only have 9 nights. Just trying to decide if it's worth it to get to Nice and book flights into Nice out of Paris, or just book round trip in/out of Paris and add on trips from there.

It takes a lot of energy to move 5 people.
If you are interested in Nice you can add Nice, but only if you then fly out of Nice (or vice versa).
Otherwise there are plenty of areas closer to Paris that would make a nice 3-night extension to a 6-night Paris stay. What do YOU (and your family) want to see?

Nice is about as far from Paris as you can go and still be in France. If you're looking at Paris + a nearby region, as Balso suggests, you might consider Normandy OR the Loire OR Alsace OR Burgundy. Learn more about them under "Explore Europe" on the upper left corner of this page. All are easily reached from Paris by train. A car would help you get around any of them, but maybe not realistic for five people.
