Fountainebleau to Strasbourg

3 week trip to France in September. Staying in Fountainebleau and want to go to Strasbourg. But stop somewhere between for 2 or 3 days. Any suggestions?
Then a few days in Colmar. After that stop somewhere for a few days on our way to Loire Valley.
Any suggestions on a good place to stop. We love history, museums, small villages and Cities where there are sites to see.

The French railway being what it is, I don't think you can avoid going back to Paris and making cross town station change for this.

Nancy is a good spot. Return to Gare de Lyon then make the change to Gare de l'Est. Reims might be another spot. They are all on the way to Strasbourg,

From Colmar to Loire Valley, back to Paris. Maybe a more roundabout route to Dijon. Then to Gare de Lyon and another cross town station change to Gare Montparnasse to get to Loire Valley near Tours and Blois.

We will have a car for the entire trip. Picking it up at CDG . Thank you, I was looking at Reims and Nancy on the map as stopping places. But was open to other suggestions. Have you been to Nancy?

From Fontainebleau: near Mélun Vaux le Vicomte and Blandy, Provins, Reims, Verdun, Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg. Never visited Metz but heard good things about it and even I visited Nancy over 40 years ago I can remember Place Stansilas is certainly worth to see.

From Colmar: Mulhouse “Bugatti” museum, Dijon, Beaune, Abbeye de Fontenay, Vezelay, Guédelon (construction of medieval castle from scratch), along the Loire to Orléans (Pont-canal de Briare) and further for instance to Amboise. Just some ideas. Burgundy has so much to offer, stay there as long as you can.
