Foire De Chatou will be happening while we are in Paris. Has anyone been to it? Any advice?
I went many years ago. It is a very large antiques fair in a dusty fairground, but I see that you have to pay 10€ to get in, which I find steep. The immediate area is not particularly attractive; many impressionists painted on the island where the fair is located, but only a restaurant remains from that time. You would need a lot of imagination to mentally recreate the scene of 125+ years ago.
Access from Paris is quite easy, but in most cases, I would rather go to the Puces de St Ouen (or those in Vanves, but I have never been to thsoe), which are free, or to one of the antiques street markets that regularly pop up around Paris.
If you do end up going, try to combine with a visit of Malmaison palace, which is very interesting if you have even the slightest interest in Napoleon. It is a quick Uber ride away. The center of Rueil Malmaison is also very cute and can be a good place for a meal.
