We are flying into Geneva from the US and have a rental car. We have a couple days until check in in Cannes. Should we stay a night in Geneva? What is interesting to see or move on somewhere in France on our way to Cannes? Would love some suggestions. We have an overnight booked in Lyon which I can easily cancel.
A gd place to get over jet lag could be Annecy in France. A short easy drive from GVA airport. A picturesque town along a peaceful river. If that is too sedate. Opt for 2 nights in gorgeous village surrounded by mt blanc and take gondolas up the mtn.
Gva is a big business city, not relaxing and quite expensive in general.
Lyon is a bustling city with some minor tourist sights. I prefer my suggestions by far.
Second vote for Annecy!
A very charming town with a beautiful crystal clear lake surrounded by mountains.
You may also consider going to Chamonix, however it's a longer drive.
We took a shuttle from Geneva Airport to Chamonix, then a train to Annecy a few days later.
If you don't want to drive upon arrival, due to jet lag, you can probably find a shuttle from the airport to Annecy.
Another option would be to fly directly from Geneva to Nice, then travel to Cannes via train.
Both towns looks absolutely gorgeous. Should we do a night in each or do a day trip to Chaminox and spend the night in Annecy and maybe head down to Marseille or another town on the way? Since we have a car and should be on the road out of Geneva by noon or 1 pm we have options.
Also it looks like the distance from both cities to Cannes are the same although one route is through France and the other looks like it goes through France & Italy. Which route is better for driving as a tourist that only speaks English?
