I'm flying out of Orly airport Paris in October. I assume it's not as busy as Charles de Gaulle. How far in advance of my flight should i get there? thanks Sue
Although Orly is smaller than CDG, there can be long delays at security checkpoints. The airport’s website recommends the standard three-hour arrival time prior to an international flight; two hours for flights within the Schengen zone.
Given an option, I always go to ORY; closer to Paris than CDG, and much easier to navigate. Going to the US I typically fly La Compagnie which asks you to check in 2 hours in advance. 2 hours is fine for inside Schengen flights.

Going where and any checked bags?

I agree with this. I've often seen 20-30 minutes posted wait times for security at Orly, whereas CDG has always been faster than this in my experience (the bottleneck is usually border control for int'l flights).
Orly is small but very crowded. Standard time rules apply as stated above.
Hello,
Three hours International and 2 hours otherwise. it is a small airport but busy. I prefer it over CDG

Think domestic flights in the US. A couple hours is about right.
I like using the OrlyVal to get to Orly. It's closer to town and takes about half as long to reach from Paris as CDG
Edit: should have asked where you're going? I'm assuming it is to another European destination?
OrlyVal is no longer relevant.
Just take Metro Line 14 direct to the airport. Alas, you need a special Airport ticket instead of a regular €2.50 metro ticket.
Line 14 has been in operation to and from the airport since last summer prior to the Olympics.
