We are flying into Paris at 8:00am and can't check into our rental apartment until 3:00pm. Is there anyplace we can safely store our luggage for the day?

You can find a list of luggage storage places at http://en.parisinfo.com/practical-paris/practical-fact-sheets/left-luggage-services-in-paris. Just pick the most convenient place for you. Not sure if you are flying into CDG but if you are and taking the RER B into town, leave the luggage at Gare du Nord. Similarly, a route of the Air France bus goes to Gare de Lyon and Gare Montparnasse, both of which have luggage storage. One thing to mention just in case you have not checked is that sometimes the landlord or agent might allow you to leave your luggage at an office or even the apartment until check in time.
