Flying into Marseille - looking for home base

Hi,

I have 5 days left to plan on my 15 day visit to France. I'm looking for a good base in Provence that will allow me to see both the Riviera and Provence. We have a car and don't mind spending time driving. Thanks.

At the eastern end of the Riviera, Antibes can be a handy home base on the coast, or Vence is a charming town further inland. Driving across Provence from Vence to Aix-en-Provence, for instance, takes about 4 hours or from Antibes to Cassis about 2.5 hours on the highway. Rick's Provence & Mediterranean book has a map on p. 552 to help estimate driving times and you can use www.viamichelin.com for more specifics. That book covers more towns in the region than Rick's France book does.
