Flying from Lyon to Berlin

We would like to fly from Lyon, France, to Berlin, Germany. We would leave from Lyon Saint-Exupery and fly to Berlin-Schonefeld. Have you had experience flying this route? How is the ground transportation from Schonefeld to the center of Berlin?
Thank you

I assume this is Easyjet? Be sure you stick to the luggage maximums rigidly and know how you are going to provide your boarding pass, either printing it out at home or using a mobile device.

Schoenefeld has a railway station about ten minutes' walk away. There are no direct S-Bahn trains to central Berlin, they only run onto the Ringbahn, the circular line around the edge of the centre. For central Berlin you need an RE7 or RB14 train which uses the same tickets. They stop at major stations on the east-west main line through the centre, including Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Hauptbahnhof, and Zoo. Do not take an RB21 or RB22 which takes a long detour around the southern edge of the centre and through Potsdam. If you say where your hotel is we can suggest what route to take.

Depending on how much travel in Berlin you intend to do for the rest of the day, you should buy either a single fare or a day pass for zones A B and C. There are ticket machines in the terminal building itself which tend to have smaller queues than the ones in the station. Remember to activate your ticket in one of the small orange machines on the platform before you board the train.

One great thing about Berlin, the airport is close to town. I usually prefer taking public transit but in Berlin a taxi is worth considering. I was on business on this trip, and I remember thinking, well that was a snap.

@Philip, we are both 6 feet tall - with Easyjet, do you think we will have enough leg room, allowing them to assign our seats at no extra fee, or pay a bit more to pre-select aisle seats? Thank you.

Jeff,

I'd definitely recommend paying a bit extra for the extra leg room seats. This will also mean that you get priority boarding, and you're also allowed one small bag ( purse or small backpack) that must be placed under the seat in front.
Make sure you read all the small print, and if you plan to check-in your luggage ("hold luggage") it's best to pay in advance, or you'll end up paying more at the airport.

Keep in mind that you can also print your tickets 30 days before your flight.

Enjoy your trip!
