Fly into Paris/CDG then to Nancy

We are planning an overnight flight from US to Paris in late June, with plans to travel by train to Nancy. We want to rest one night in Paris before traveling to Nancy. Shall we simply book a hotel at CDG or try to stay in Paris? We have been to Paris twice but it is so tempting to return even if for only a night. Would love suggestions from this group. Of course the run-up to the Olympics is a big consideration.

It seems late to be planning a June trip, but even so I always believe if passing through cities like Paris, Rome, London, etc it is a perfect time to explorer. We have stop in route through Paris three things and still have more on our list. Take advantage of a free vacation at the expense of couple nights hotel. What ever you do decide enjoy the journey and safe travels.

Why stay in a bland airport hotel when you can spend your time in Paris? Looks like trains between Paris and Nancy leave out of Gare de l'Est. Find a nice hotel near a Metro/RER station and enjoy the day and evening.

Thanks all! I will definitely check out places to stay in Paris near the Metro/RER. The pull of Paris is very strong!

Stay in Paris near your train station. We did this, this fall. We had to get to Montpellier and our plane was not coming in till noon -- we are old. We decided a long train south starting at 4 or so would just be too much after a transAtlantic flight. So we booked a hotel near Gare de Lyon. We enjoyed a walk along the Seine and a nice dinner and got a good night's sleep before a leisurely breakfast and walking over to our train. It turned out to be especially prudential when our flight arrived two hours late - we might well have missed the train if we had booked that afternoon.

Your train will go from Gare d l'est; get a hotel in an easy stroll from there and then enjoy an evening in Paris.

Ahh, thanks Janetstravels44. It would be a total waste to skip one night in Paris. What was I thinking?!

The area south and east of Gare de l'Est is quite nice, towards the Canal Saint Martin. You can enjoy a lovely stroll and a good dinner in that area.
