Flights from Paris to Rome

In late August we need to schedule a mid-morning flight from Paris to Rome. We prefer Orly for ease, but only Vueling and Easy Jet have non stop flights and we are not familiar with either airline. Air France fly's out of CDG but for more $$. Suggestions?

Both those airlines are mainstays of domestic european travel. I have taken EasyJet several times - took it from Rome to AMS, for example. I know of Vueling but have no personal experience. Don't bother with major international airlines--

We chose Air France for a flight between Italy and Paris, by the time I calculated any extra cost with the budget airlines it made sense to go with Air France, I could take my carry on at no cost and pick my seats. I want to say it was only about 70€ each one way, but I purchased well in advance.

We have used easyJet a number of times. Works well BUT follow their rules closely. You need to checkin on line and their baggage limit is enforced. I compare them somewhat to Southwest. Have not used Vueling so I cannot compare but would not hesitate to use easyJet again.

We have flown both Vueling and Easyjet and had great experiences with each. The planes we were on were new and clean. They used open seating boarding like Southwest when we flew with them. You have to be very careful to follow the luggage rules, but they were not onerous and we found that the weight limits on the legacy airlines within Europe were about the same. We had a flight from Rome to Paris on Easyjet. We bought one checked bag each and the limit was 20 kg. We were there for 3 mos and so had two seasons stuff and still had no real problem with that. They allowed us to pool our weight, so my bag was 22 and my husband's 18. The carry on size is quite small, smaller than a US 22 inch carry on and we had messenger bags with our heavy and valuable stuff e.g. cameras, computers etc. They had at the time we flew no weight limit on the carry on, just a size limit. I have a scottevest.com trench coat with 18 hidden pockets; if necessary to make weight I can carry a lot of heavy stuff like readers, cameras, chargers, notebooks etc in my pockets of my coat.

We flew Vueling to Spain and had a good experience too; again read the luggage rules carefully and follow them and you have no problems.

We will each have one carry on - around a 20" inch bag and a back pack. No checked luggage. Will that work for Vueling or Easy Jet without having to pay extra?

No, you are allowed one carry on -- not two. So one will to be checked.

JR,

I've flown with both airlines, and wouldn't have a problem using a flight with either one. easyJet is my preferred budget airline in Europe, and I prefer to use them whenever possible. Whichever one you decide on, be sure to read their Terms & Conditions carefully, especially regarding luggage rules.

Regarding your luggage questions, easyJet normally allows only one carry on item per passenger, which means one only and no "personal item". However if you upgrade by purchasing a few of the options such as Speedy Boarding or advance seat selection, the luggage rules are more relaxed. I'd highly recommend upgrading as especially with Speedy Boarding, it makes the trip so much more pleasant.

Here are the luggage rules for easyJet - http://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/cabin-bag-and-hold-luggage . As I recall, they don't care about the weight (as long as you can lift items into the bin) but they may check the size.

You have to pay attention to the luggage rules. Both allow ONE carry one -- not a carry on bag and a purse and a backpack or whatever -- ONE thing and most carryon bags are too big.

You will need to check the 20 inch bag if you want to carry on a purse or backpack. It is not big deal and not that expensive to check a bag.

EasyJet is great value for money, but everything comes at a cost. Buy these "extras" on-line in advance and be sure to check in on-line too, well in advance. And yes, they really mean ONE cabin bag. Vueling is now part of the British Air-Iberia-Aer Lingus corporation so I don't know just how strict about cabin luggage they will be. These bargain lines are popular because they are so economical -- and the flights aren't too long.

Note the advice to purchase the checked bag online and in advance -- at-the-gate will cost tres cher, while the cost at time of booking is pretty reasonable.

I think I paid about 12 Euro a checked bag which is not as much as some US carriers charge. Anything done last minute costs a ton.

You have to check your other bag. There are regulations for use for EasyJet. I'd go with EasyJet.
There is a small fee for this.
