Flight From Paris to Nice: Easy Jet or Transavia

Hi,

Thank you in advance for reading. My family and I will be flying from Paris to Nice in early April. We are debating between two airline choices.

Choice 1; Easy Jet from Paris (Orly Airport) to Nice.

Choice 2: Air France (Operated by Transavia) from Orly airport to Nice.

Regarding cancellations, which choice do you think is more reliable?

Also, if anyone has flown from Paris to Nice or know someone who did at least one, may you please provide tell me which airline did you use?

Thank you

Transavia is owned by airlines—KLM and Air France. Easyjet is owned largely by two banks—Barclays Bank and BNP Paribas.

That— along with Easyjet’s tardiness record of fully one-third of its flights experiencing delays—is enough to tip the scales in favor of Transavia.

Either one is fine. Pick whichever fits your schedule better.

Just a note that the train is only fast to Marseille. The last couple of hours are slow (nice views!) after the train turns to head to Nice along the coast.

Transavia operates Boeing 737s and Easy Jet uses Airbus A320s, this is the only significant difference if aircraft type is a deciding factor for a 90-minute flight.

Neither airline is more prone to cancellations than the other, most of the time it's beyond their control. Transavia and EasyJet are both low-cost carriers, so be sure to check their policies regarding cabin and checked baggage fees.

I prefer the much more comfortable TGV train of high speed from Paris gare de Lyon right into Nice Ville station. Yes, as it goes along the coast it slows down and gives great views.

and it is much better for the environment... and no sitting still with no knee room

Oh there is no doubt that the train is a zillion times better for the environment and more comfortable.

I just didn't want anyone to come away with the impression that it's a TGV -- super fast -- all the way.

Hi sorry for late reply, thank you everyone for your suggestions. Our concern with the train over the flight is the train being cancelled due to a potential strike. We think the plane might be safer regarding there being a cancellation, but what do you think? Considering we only have about 4-5 days on the Coast.

Unless you know a strike has already been announced. You’re worrying about something you can’t control.

And air traffic control in France goes on strike a lot too. I got caught in that last year.

I don’t know much about Transylvania, but I will tell you the EasyJet has incredibly strict luggage restrictions. I mean incredibly strict , so plan to pay a lot extra luggage.

If I have a choice in Europe of a decent length train ride or a plane, I always take the train. My experience has been delays and cancellations are less likely on the train.

Flew in February from AMS to Naples on Transavia and now will avoid them forever. They do everything on the cheap! Poorly trained gate staff did not cope with loudly arguing passengers or report them to security and allowed a large crowd to mass at the door to the bus. Apparently only one bus to take passengers to the plane, missed our pushback, leaving 1 1/2 hours late. Apparently only one person bringing and unloading luggage from the plane. Lost our luggage, could not find our apartment to deliver it, and left us wearing the same clothes for 11 days before delivery. Reimbursing us for only 80% of our expenses, which were less than 140 Euros.
Take the train!

Either airline. I've taken both without a problem. But a poorly trained employee can cause a lot of problems anywhere, per the other poster's experience. On EasyJet, we buy the upgraded ticket so board first and avoid crowding. In my city, we line-up when boarding Transavia...unlike those unruly Parisians described above.

I like flying this route after doing both several times. The train is fast to Marseille, which takes three hours, and then it's slow along the coast for another three. There is some beautiful scenery.

But, when flying into Nice I always take a window seat because it's a beautiful landing over the Alps and over the sea, before turning and landing.

The Nice airport is in the city and Orly is a stone's throw from Paris. Just choose the time that fits you best.

No strikes have been announced for the period, whether it's SNCF or Air Traffic Control.
It's short-notice, so I would go for whichever is cheaper between EasyJet, Transavia, and SNCF excluding Ouigo trains (too uncomfortable for the 6-hour journey) - but TGV Inoui trains are fine.
The train takes about 1.5-2 hours longer than the plane.

Hi,

Thank you all for the suggestions and your careful consideration to detail!

We have chosen to take the train from Paris to Nice as its best recommended and will be taking a TGV first class ride as these tend to be less likelier to cancel.

Plus, I thought about it, We would like to see how the scenery of France changes to more country side look to more Mediteranean.
