Flea Markets-Paris

I have an upcoming 12 day, solo trip to Paris. I would like to visit multiple flea markets. I am looking for some tableware items and perhaps some small "old" French items for Christmas gifts. I know about the established markets, but I would love to attend some neighborhood, vide-grenier, type markets. I am thinking that there is a web site that has a calendar of such events, but I haven't been able to find one.

Does anyone know of such a web-site or have any ideas?
Also, what have been your flea market experiences and what did you buy?

I love markets. Spent the month of March in Provence going to almost 25 markets in the small towns in the area. Did as many Paris markets as I could in November 2023. I have a "bible" I always travel with Markets of Paris by Dixon Long and Marjorie Willians which lists markets by ARR and then day of the week. Fabulous.

2d; rue Montorgueil- long street market, Tu-Sat 10-6
Covered Passage- about 5-6 around the city and they are fabulous both for items and architecturer
12th: Viaduct Arts and Crafts Mkt Tu-Sat 10-6AlA
12th: Rue d'Aligne Tu-Sunday 8-130. There is also a food hall with wonderful food.

My prize: Went to rue d'Aligne market. Outside are books, knicknacks, lots of stuff and clothes. in an area there was a sea of clothes, black clothes and in the midst of black clothes, coats, jackets, was a fabulous red coat. As I live in a Mexican beach town I have no need of a coat. Admired this coat, tried on this coat and for 10 euro could not leave this coat, so I bought it. In researching the label when I returned home it turned out it was Russian, cashmere and made before 1960 as determined by the label. I surmised it had been someone's mother, grandmother's and in cleaning out their apt, got rid of the coat. It is gorgeous and in pristine condition. My birthday is in November and I always travel to Europe for my birthday and say at my age I deserve the whole month! What I also try to do is to travel where I can wear my red coat!

As I am old enough to be getting rid of things I buy antique lace to sew on new pillowcases, ribbon/buttons/small original artwork to put on hats, soap, Bonne Manan jams, Kelloggs Extra cereal which is not sold in the US, postcards of famous sites to frame at home, wrapping paper to use as artwork, rocks from beaches to plant in my front flowerbed, sweater, tops, boots and shoes, salt from France Camargue, travel journal for my next trip, Provence decorated kitchen sponge holder.

Another prize I bought in one of the shops in the Passage. I was planning on painting my house yellow, turquoise, purple and red (Mexican beach town, remember) I found a round door knob like the French put in the middle of their doors. Yellow, red and purple--just perfect! Happy Hunting.

Janet,
I love your red coat story and how you wear your red coat for your birthday on your yearly European trips!

Vandrabrud,
How lovely for you to spend 12 solo days in Paris! I would love to do that sometime.

Vintage/flea market shopping is one of my favorite activities while traveling. I started following an invaluable Instagram account, @Kissa.vintage.Paris, that lists all the real-time info needed for flea markets happening in a given week.

A few days before (usually on Thursday for Saturday; Friday for Sunday) she posts a reel with a list of the usual suspects, plus pop-ups and irregularly scheduled markets. She lists the day, times, size, type, metro stop and street address for the markets. You do have to “screen shot” the reel to read/save the info - but it’s worth it.

This past February, in the pouring rain, I found my very favorite flea market purchase of all time at the D’Aligre Market. I paid €12 for a wet (it was really raining) ziploc sandwich bag packed with 30 or so darling little porcelain owl figurines. I imagine they were someone’s collection.

Happy hunting!
