First travel to Paris in October and not sure in what location we should stay

My husband and I are traveling to Paris in late October to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and also his birthday, but we are not sure about what is the best location to book the hotel. This is our first visit to Paris. I hope you can help me to decide!! 😊

Paris is divided into Arrondissements. Look at the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissements , the left bank.

There's no one "best" location, Paris has thousands of good hotels in hundreds of neighborhoods. It's hard to go wrong.

Look for a hotel as close to the Seine as you can afford, within a few blocks of a Metro station (preferably one where two lines intersect). Many Paris sites are within walking distance of each other and many hotels, others can be reached easily by Metro. Booking.com is a good way to search for hotels, with useful filters and a map view. Many in this forum would recommend the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th arrondissements, but others further out from the center can be almost as convenient and less expensive. Use Google Earth's "street view" to eyeball the surroundings of a hotel that interests you, looking for cafes, bakeries, major banks (with ATMs), and other services you might appreciate. Also look for indications of heavy traffic, late-night street noise, and other possible annoyances.

To book with a hotel, try to use its own website for better service. You're not likely to save money using booking.com or other third parties. Pay attention to things like air conditioning, elevators, bed size (a US queen is 160 cm wide) and such.

Notre Dame is the center and heart of Paris. I enjoy being as close to Notre Dame and the river as possible. It’s the most beautiful area, imo, and i can easily walk to so many places without needing public transportation. My favorite areas are Ile St Louis in the 4th arrondissement (the little island next to ND), the Marais in the 4th, and the Latin Quarter in the 5th. In that order. I recommend getting a good map of Paris to see the layout and where everything is. For me, the areas i listed are the most fun, most charming areas of Paris.

So many great neighborhoods! Do lots of homework. After doing a ton, we booked through Alcoves and Agapes B&B for our first Paris visit in June. Best thing ever. Stayed with Odile in the 15th with a view of the Eiffel tower, Montmartre and the golden dome and Montparnasse from our balcony. Half a block to an easy metro stop, and the metro goes every where. We also made great use of a Paris Passlib that gave us unlimited metro/train/bus use, the on-off bus, an hour Seine river boat cruise, and a museum pass for one price.

Have fun!!!
