The fire at Deux Garçons in Aix came up in my Instagram. I don’t read French but it looks as though Cezanne’s cafe has been destroyed.

Oh, dear.
Used Google translate: looks like the fire was very bad and the building is in danger of collapsing.
My friend and I ate there when we stayed an extra day in Aix at the end of the RS Eastern France tour last October. I'm a big fan of Cézanne and wanted to visit some local sites.

For someone who doesn’t read French, you did well. Yes, that’s the beautiful historic brasserie, Les Deux Garçons. Yes, the building is now unsafe.
The article tells a bit more: due to legal problems the Deux Garçons had been sold to a building developer and a Marseille restauranteur, famous for bouillabaisse, whose partners pulled out of the deal. Sound fishy?

Such a shame.
I thought much of Aix was protected by UNESCO. It sounds like a beautiful town.

All true, i live near Aix and went by yesterday. Also made famous because the Corsican separatists targeted it a few decades ago with a bomb.
It was an institution on the Cours Mirabeau. They ran into some financial issues this past year and were closed since October.
Shame too about Pizza Capri on the corner. That’s gone as well.
