Finding a taxi at CDG

Is it difficult finding a taxi when arriving from the US on American Airlines?

Do not be lured by anyone who approaches you in the terminal asserting that they are official taxi. Be sure to follow the signs.

Taxi rates between the airports and Paris are fixed:

Between CDG and the Left Bank: 65€ for up to four people and their luggage.

Between CDG and the Right Bank: 56€ for up to four people and their luggage.

Anyone who says 'do you need a taxi'. or who says 'this is the line for taxis to the suburbs, the taxis for Paris are over here' is a scammer who will take you for an expensive ride. In some terminals there are footprints on the floor that lead you to the queue - in all terminals there are clear signs for the taxi queue which will be obvious when you get to it. The last two trips we have had almost no line at all and the worst it has been was about 15 minutes. Don't let someone lure you out of that line -- some brazen con artists will actually try to pull people out of the line -- Wait till you get to the head and the dispatcher directs you to a taxi.

Have your destination printed on a piece of paper to give the cabbie -- you may want to put the cost on that paper so he knows that you know -- but we have not had problems with that.

The G7 taxi app is a good one. I have used it at CDG to book a taxi. If you use this service you will be picked up in another location away from the taxi stand. Only certified taxis are used. Also great to use in the city….kind of works like Uber.

Enjoy!

G7 will charge an extra 7 Euro to book a cab and they usually resist booking at the airport unless you have special needs like car seats. Once when I called them in Paris and they misunderstood and thought I was booking FROM CDG instead of TO CDG they told me 'we don't book from the airport, you just use the cab line' -- obviously someone else had a different experience, but I still would not pay 7 extra and risk a late plane and extra costs when the cab line is so easy to use.

Great input and advice from Kim and Janet. Always good to gather as much information as possible. Apple Store and Google Play have ratings and reviews for the G7 app to help you with your research. Have a great trip.

We were just at the airport a few weeks ago after a flight from the U.S. I stood in line at the correct taxi place and was directed to a taxi with a young driver. I showed him my address and stated the price to Montmartre—56 euros. I speak intermediate French. Even with all this, the driver said it cost more due to the traffic. So I thanked him and said I would try another driver. He told me to go ahead. I went back to the dispatcher and told her I needed a different taxi because this one wanted to charge more. Another driver, older, drove up and said he would take me. He went up to the young driver and told him not to overcharge like that. I think most are going to try to overcharge.

Many people act like it’s easy to not get overcharged. Every time we’ve arrived at CDG, we’ve had problems with the price. This time, I was firm and did all negotiations. But it was a hassle.

Kate, I am sorry that happened to you, but good for you for standing firm and not going with that driver.

This isn't something that should happen, and it's unfortunate that it did. Thanks for sharing your experience.

We take a taxi from CDG to Paris at least twice a year and one of our destinations is very distant and I am sure a money loser for the cab (deep in the 13th) and we have never had a quibble about the price. but if someone tries to add fees, yes, get out and go back to the dispatcher and report him and get a different cab. Once in the last 10 years we had a cabbie try to run the meter -- we pointed it out and he put the fixed price up on the meter.

I looked all over the taxi to find the meter. Finally saw its glowing green light— on the rear view mirror!

Every taxi we were in from CDG or within the city limits were official Paris taxis and all were professional drivers, well maintained cars, and they all had huge iPad size navigation/meters. I mean you could see everything going on from the back seat. So, I have no complaints.

At each of the customs exits, there are big blue circles on the floor leading you to the official taxi queue. Do not accept offers from those soliciting within the terminals. There are a lot of posters about taxis on the wall at baggage claim that explain the fixed fares into Paris.

If you ever have a problem with a taxi, take out your phone and start snapping pictures. Take one of the license plate, the parking permit (on the right front fender), and the operator information from the sticker on the left rear side window. Usually this is sufficient to solve any problem with the driver. Then please complete a complaint form (available in English) and submit it online to the Préfecture de Police.
