Finally! Curfew in France is almost over! And mask-wearing outside too

Yesterday we got some good news when the prime minister came out and made a short announcement after the weekly ministers' council meeting.

He announced that the government will lift the curfew earlier than they had planned to — as of Sunday, no more curfew!! (we have been either in lockdown or curfew straight since October 17)

And, no more mask wearing outside as of *TODAY!!!! * You must still wear a mask if you're outside in a crowded situation like at a farmer's market or in a queue etc, and still in all situations inside, on public transport, and in vehicles with non-family members, but at least — AT LEAST — walking to and from the metro or on your daily walk or whatever, no more mask!!!

France hit its target of vaccinating 30 million people with at least a first dose of the vaccine by June 15, so that is great news too. Vaccination opened up Tuesday to kids aged 12 to 16. The numbers of infections and of people in ICU have been plummeting these past few weeks.

It feels like things are finally going the right way !! YIPPEE!!!!

Susan — just let him know that curfew is until 11 pm his first couple of days - and then it goes away.

Thank you Kim, he did know about the 11pm curfew which is very limiting for him (and his 3 friends going with) and his Paris friends, at their age they like to stay out late, so he was very happy to get the word from you. Much appreciate you posting this, and for all your very helpful posts on many threads.
He and his friends completely revised their itinerary (with much stress) based on very helpful info you gave me on another thread. You are the best.

It's a real pity the announcement was made the way it was - for most people the rules on mask wearing haven't actually changed, but the headlines don't make it look that way. All of the places you had to wear a mask yesterday (in all except in a couple of cities) you have to wear a mask today

Being here during a heatwave I am pretty excited that we no longer have to wear a mask outside. It has made all the difference today in this humidity and oppressive heat.

I agree, Alexander.

Even though we still have to wear the mask most places, it's HUGE not having to wear it when walking to/from the metro, or walking down the street. It's so friggin hot right now.
