My husband and I are going to spend 6 days in Provence Sept. 29-Oct. 5. I had booked an apartment in St. Remy, thinking it would be a good base. We have a rental car. I just found out that week is the annual Festival in St. Remy and now am concerned it might be too crowded and noisy there. Has anyone stayed in St. Remy during the Fete? Is it noisy at night? Is there some other town that would serve as a better place to stay, so that it would be quiet at night?
At that time of year you can probably close your windows at night (best in case of mosquitoes, too). Does the apartment mention air conditioning?
Thank you Laura for your reply. Actually, there is not air conditioning in that apartment, and so I have decided to rent one where there is air conditioning in a different town. I have cancelled the reservation in St. Remy and made one in Isle sur La Sorgue. I read on another RS forum post that this is a recommended town. It doesn't appear to have as much "character" as St. Remy, but RS book on Provence describes it as quiet and a good base for visiting the area. I hope it is.
