Ferry from Lausanne to France

We'll be traveling from Lausanne across Lake Geneva to France next summer. We can choose either Evian-les-Bains (directly across the lake) or Thonon-les-Bains (a little to the west) as our landing point. Does anyone have recommendations about which boat trip would be more scenic or which town more interesting to visit? Once in France, we'll be driving to Annecy, if that comes into the equation in any way.

We took a very enjoyable, easy day trip by ferry from Lausanne to Evian-les-Bains. Great little market, fun funicular ride up the mountain with a stop at the Evian water source, nice walkable town with good restaurants. We haven't been to Thonon-les-Bains so can't compare the two.
