I am considering taking the overnight ferry from Cherbourg to Ireland in May, 2018. Has any had any experience with this? The only accommodation is a "reclining" seat. Is this comfortable enough to get a decent night's sleep? What are the toilet/dining facilities like? Info on-line is pretty sketchy. Thanks
I don't recommend a reclining seat; it won't be any better than "sleeping" on an airplane. I have slept well on overnight ferries when I had a cabin (or shared one). www.irishferries.com and www.stenalinetravel.com both offer cabins on this route; Stena Line does not run daily.
I tried sleeping on a reclining chair on a cross channel ferry once and it didn't happen despite a fair few beers beforehand. If you want to sleep I advise getting a cabin.
Toilet facilities tend to be adequate enough. Clean, basic but fit for purpose. Dining wise, don't get your hopes up.
