Arles or Avignon
What about them?
Is Arles too closed down in February for a 4 night stay? First trip to Provence.
We spent 3 nights in Arles in March a few years ago. It was a great city, rather quite, Avignon might have more to offer in February. By the way, take warm closes. We definitely encountered mistrals!
Avignon is a better of a hub to explore the region. Arles is 30 minutes from there.
You have to think about what you are interested in doing and seeing in the day or night.
I was considering Provence for a February getaway, but then I read about the bitterly cold mistrals in the western part. So I looked at the eastern side, with mild weather. Nice has a big festival in February and there's a lemon festival at a nearby town (don't remember the name) that sounded fun. In the end, I'm going to Italy. . . . saving Provence for spring 2018.
The lemon festival I believe is in Menton...
Some events around Nice in the second half of February:

I'm going to tag on questions about my trip to Provence in late February & early March. I have 6 days to divide between Arles, Luberon and Marseille. Since I will be driving from Cahors to Arles, should I spend 3 in Arles, 2 in the Luberon and one in Marseille before we drop off the car and take the train to Paris? I have been to the other areas of Provence previously.
