Favorite Travel/Directions Apps for Paris

Hi everyone....I am wondering what apps for your phone you like the best regarding walking directions/maps for Paris? We just recently got rid of our little tracfones, and got iphones, so if there are some apps out there you think would be helpful, please let me know. Thank you very much! Linda

"City maps 2 go" is one of my favorite apps. You can create any number of lists and then drop pins on the map - whether it's restaurants, cheese shops, best places to photograph the Eiffel Tower - whatever! The best part is you don't need wifi to access it. Having said that though, any phone map is restricted by the size of the iphone screen. So, I generally take a map (Streetwise is my personal favorite) and use it in conjunction with my iphone.

For guidance in getting around Paris, I rely on Citymapper. For walking around, HERE maps.

RATP the metro & bus system has a great app. Ulmon Paris is a map app where you can search addresses and save them. Enjoy Paris!

Besides Google Maps, I liked the Next-Stop-Paris App for transportation; it’s free and can be used offline.

On Google Maps, you can download maps of all the cities you plan to visit and can use offline, so you won’t need to use up your data.

BTW, if you’re planning to be in Paris for more than 4 days, you may also consider getting the Navigo Découverte week pass.
Paris is a BIG city and many of the main sites are all spread out, so save your feet and take a bus, Metro or tram!

Enjoy your trip!

Edited to add...
One more thing. Don’t forget to book your Eiffel Tower tickets 3 months in advance!

Don’t forget about Rick Steves Audio Europe; there’s a lot to listen to and prepare you for your trip as well as numerous tours to use while there. The RATP app is great for navigating the Metro and other public transportation. Paris Metro is another option that seems to be a little more user friendly. I also like Google Maps for finding my way around the city.

I use an app called Trip Case that stores my itinerary. If you make a hotel, air or car reservations, just forward the confirmation email to them and it’ll be added automatically (most of the time) and it’ll store the actual confirmation so all your info is in the same place. You’ll be able to access the info on a pc or tablet as well.

I also use Trip Splitter lite to record my expenses as I travel. It’s originally designed to record expenses for a group and then divvy up who owes what to whom. I use it when traveling solo and you can export the results to an Excel spreadsheet. If you want a GPS map showing your route - and where you took photos - take a look at Track Kit. Loaded with a lot of features but be aware that using a GPS tracker can eat up a lot of battery.

Tripit does the same as Trip Case -- takes the details from email confirmations and creates an itinerary which you (and your fellow travelers) can access offline.

Paris Practique, also known as Paris par Arrondissement. It maps each arrondissement in great detail and can fit in most purses. It's invaluable in Paris. You can buy one there at a newsstand. I'm leaving for Europe today and have mine packed.
