favorite cheap eats restaurant in Paris

I know the list is endless but I have about 5 restaurants here in different American cities that I still think of. I'm traveling on a budget, so anything that would provide a good meal $15 or under would be amazing. What is that one restaurant in the City of Lights that you still think about?

Thanks!

We like Café Med on Ile St Louis. Inexpensive and a charming atmosphere. Last visit Oct 2021 you could get a 3 course dinner for €15.

Any of the Bouillion restaurants are going to be reasonably cheap and correct. The one in le Marais has a terrasse.

Just wander around the area you're in and browse the menus. Or try in or near a train station.

Creperies should be in that price range. I haven't been to Paris recently enough to provide specific recommendations (that's an understatement). Another possibility would be Middle Eastern spots that seem to be busy with locals.

France is a country where lunch specials are usually a very good deal. Having your main meal at lunch rather than dinner will probably save a lot of money if you're eating in regular restaurants.

It's not exactly a secret, but I like L'As du Fallafel. For me, a fallafel works as a meal. I think they have a sit down area, but I like to take it to Place des Vosges. It seems to be always busy and it's kosher, so closed on Friday evenings.

Au Pied de Fouet at 45 Rue de Babylon for an authentic meal surrounded by locals. If dining solo, expect to be seated at a table with others. Duck confit, purée, vegetables, glass of wine about $20.

Le Petit Cler at 29 Rue Cler for their plat du jour, $15. Sunday’s roasted chicken with purée always sells out at lunch. Great place for people watching, and a nice variety of wines by the glass.

Au Bougnat is a bit more than $15 but not much. It is literally just a few steps from Notre Dame on a quiet street. The inside of this bistro is charming and has a great cheeseburger, mushroom soup, etc.

for big messy plates of excellent Basque food try the Chez Gladines; there is one in the Marais and one in Butte aux Cailles. No reservations, but they usually fit couples in fairly quickly. Enormous servings.

The Bouillon Pigalle has the best food of the Bouillons. We have eaten lavishly for under 20 a head and with careful menu selection you could have 3 courses for well under 15 Euro. Wine was 10 Euro for a liter of very drinkable rose last time we were there. The Chartier Bouillons are also cheap and have spectacularly beautiful rooms -- one in Montparnasse that is gorgeous and one in the ninth, also beautiful. Food is cheap, big menu, I assume it is airplane food but it is 'fine'. took our 12 year old to the one in Montparnasse and she was thrilled with her snails and with the gorgeous room.

I like the falafel place across the street from the one Jules likes, thanks to a recommendation from another forum member several years ago. The lines at Mi-Va-Mi are shorter and the falafel tastes better to me. They have other things on the menu as well. I, too, usually get it to go but usually try to duck into the Jardin des Rosiers Joseph Mignaret. Last time it was really busy back in there but I found a seat. I think I paid 13E for a falafel pita, a water and order of frites to takeaway.

Both Mi-Va-Mi and L'As du Fellafel have inside seating but as indicated are kosher thus closed Friday nights and Saturdays.

Great tip Pam, both for Vi-Ma-Vi (not a fan of L’As du Fallafel) and for Jardin des Rosiers. I’ll be there soon!
