Can anyone recommend a museum in Paris that concentrates on fashion? I love browsing the windows of the fashion houses but would love to see how ladies (and men's) clothes have changed through the centuries. Thanks!
The Musée de la Mode et du Textile comes under the auspices of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
Entrance on Rue de Rivoli, by the Louvre. http://www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr/
There's also a separate museum of fashion operated by the city rather than the national museum administration, the Musee Galliera. It's close to the Pont d'Alma (famous as the site of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, which may be a bit inappropriate given the subject matter). It's currently closed for renovation, but is scheduled to reopen in November.
Hi Sharon. You might be interested in taking a guided walk through Paris Walks. www.paris-walks.com
They are offering both Chanel and Paris Fashion Walks during the month of September. I believe both must be reserved in advance. Have Fun!
