Hoping to take my family on a vacation to Southern France would like to rent a villa/home eight adults three small children would love a pool and be close to a town that we can walk to also would like the option of some amenities. Any advice?
this question is just as hard to answer as your question about "Northern Italy" - it is just too broad.
how soon?
the questions asked in your other post with the same questions about "Northern Italy" apply here, substituting, what do you mean by "Southern France" for that question. Southern France stretches from Barcelona to Genoa, pretty much. What does that mean to you?
Try https://www.gites-de-france.com/fr
It will let you enter the number of your people. You need to pick an area. When I ran it for the Dordogne there were 2 or 3 places big enough for a group this size. the one I glanced at had a pool. Maybe someone else has ideas for similar search engines.
You can set the website to English. Note that gites are sort of designed for Europeans and they may require you to bring your own bedding -- or have an extra charge to provide it -- just pay attention so you can make the appropriate arrangements if necessary.
Gites de France is our go-to site for rentals of three days to three weeks. You do need to narrow your ideas down. As was said "southern France" is a huge region. In 2023 we rented a house that slept 8 (we were seven) outside of La Roque Gageac. It was an old building, fully updated, with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, with a pool, large grounds, swings, easy access (by car or bike) to nearby villages for groceries, bakeries, etc. This was in the Dordogne region, but we knew what we wanted from this trip. It is not like visiting the Mediterrean coast or the lavender or vineyard regions or the Riviera.
Give us some information about what you want/expect from the trip, ages of the children. What picture do you have in your mind when you think "Southern France"? What is the activity level of your party? Please provide more info to get better suggestions.
