Seven of us- 7yo, 70 yo and 30 somethings, so need flexibility of daily activity. Mutual interest in culture, history, food. A vineyard tour and in-house cooking class, wine tasting. Interested in how people live rather than "tourist" sites, per se. Late September, early October.
We have narrowed to Lyon and surrounds. Thinking a house for a week and hotels in Lyon perhaps for 3 days.
Some of us spent time in Beaune (which was lovely) , so not looking there for rooms but perhaps a day visit.
The house location needs activities/sight seeing within 90 or so minutes drive ideally, and a close by small/medium town with restaurants and such so some may spend a day simply wandering, shopping, people watching.
Tour agent has recommended the week long house in Visan, which reads to be very small and remote.
Any suggestions for us to consider, and an opinion on Visan and alternatives?
Thanks
Lee
I recommend going on to Vrbo (or choose whatever other site you like) and searching the broad area for the criteria you require. Sounds like you need 4+ bedrooms and 2+ bathrooms with 2 parking spots and air conditioning. You will find that your available options will drive your choices of which town to stay in.
Try gites-de-france. We were 7 people in June 2023 (ages 9 to 80) and had a great house in the Dordogne...4 bedrooms, three baths, very updated kitchen, beautiful grounds with a pool and on-site caretakers. Short drive (7-8 minutes to nearby villages for foods, markets, etc. $3000.00 for 10 days. 100 euros for cleaning afterwards. Best vacation lodging ever!
We have used gites-de-france many times, always with happy results, for 2-3 nights to 2 weeks. They have been around longer than Air BandB and have w ell-deserved excellent reputation.
Check them out.
