Family Christmas in Paris

4 adults, Mom&Dad 71 and 67, kids 35 & 36. Mom uses cane, is mobile but balance-challenged due to "bionic"knee and ankle.
Is weather and transportation services (cabs ok and walking ok - metro is not ok ) prohibitive? Is it doable or too slippery, too crowded, etc etc?

I feel for mom. It's difficult maneuvering cobblestone streets, unfamiliar sidewalks, etc. while having mobility issues--heck even without those issues. Add to that the medians/dividers in the middle of some of the roads that are only a few inches high and very difficult to see especially at night.
The first Christmas that we spent in Paris was warm and dry. The second Christmas--this past one--it was cold and rainy everyday. Rain-slicked sidewalks and streets are especially hazardous. No matter, the weather, it's still dark @ 5 p.m. My husband managed to trip over one of those dividers in the middle of the road when it was rainy and dark. We were heading back to our apartment after dinner. He smashed his face and ribs and broke his glasses.

I agree that with all the stairs at the Metro, it's probably not a good idea to use it. We don't use taxis while in Paris, so I hope someone else will attend to that. I hope you can go. I think Aesop said it best, "Slow but steady". . .

Thank you for your thoughtful response. My husband and I were in Paris in May-June 2016 during the flooding. We managed, cane and all, mainly by making frequent changes to our itinerary due to unexpected closures etc.
It was an adventure! That being said, we are seven years older and should perhaps try for fairer weather a bit earlier.

Yes, getting older certainly doesn't help! We are headed back to France (Paris and Lyon) in September simply because we didn't get the experience that we had wanted in December. The days will be longer and warmer (even if there's rain). Traversing Europe isn't easy on foot with so many Metro stairs, cobblestones, etc., but I love it and won't let it stop me. Hopefully one of your "kids" can offer an arm to you.
The crowds Christmas week were huge! Everyone was inside museums, too, due to the weather. It was to be expected but also a bit of a turn off. I hope your whole family can enjoy Paris on longer days and warmer weather.
