How long should I allow for a decent round-trip excursion from the port in Nice to Eze-le-Village? And what's the best way to get there? Thanks!
the easiest is via bus from the nice bus terminal. google if you can find the bus schedule, if you can use the bus it's about a full day. there are several villages up on the hill, so you can control your time. if it's short, just see 1 village, otherwise you can see more on your way down.
[Edited] Bus is handier from Nice's waterfront, versus the train station 3 km inland. Try www.lignedazur.com for schedules for the bus #82 that Nigel recommends below. (Train goes to Eze-Bord-de-la-Mer, where you would connect to an hourly shuttle bus up the hill.)
I don't suggest the route via Eze sur Mer.
The port - if you really dock at Nice and not anchor off Villefranche sur Mer and tender in - is very close to the bus station and the old town of Nice, a very short ride.
Then connect to the 82, which takes you right there, albeit infrequently.
If my memory is right, it is the number 83 which shuttles between the two Ezes. My dislike comes from the combination of the Formula 1 attitude of the driver and the Big Dipper roller coaster effect of the route straight down the mountain.
Hi lpyrangel
It's actually a beautiful walk up from the train station at Eze. But only if you like walking as its definitely uphill. Have a look at the Bastide walk on here and you will get the idea. That might influence your decision. I found it was nice to do.
