Just cancelled our SF0-CDG roundtrip 4-8-20...5-1-20. I was on hold 24 minutes (not bad). Less than 5 minutes with the agent, Sky Miles credited back to my account no change/cancellation fee. Taxes and fees credited back to my credit card. Glad we had fully cancelable hotel and car reservations. Back to the drawing board......maybe September or October? Hope so.

Your experience reminds me how glad I am that a couple of my flights are on easy-to- return miles.
September or October 2021? Possibly.
2020? I wouldn’t be holding out much hope for this!
Thanks for reporting your experience! I'm going to have to cancel a domestic flight with them, but I'm waiting until closer to the actual date as I know they're still swamped with other people flying sooner who are doing the same thing.
I don't enjoy talking to anyone on the telephone, so I'm glad that your example shares a good take on how this can go. I've already read a few where it didn't go so quickly and smoothly. It's good to have hope! :-)
I am also hoping that by September (5 months away) things will be better.
I was going to fly in April and and I had a non-refundable fare.
Delta only allowed me to modify my flight but I had to fly before the one year anniversary of my original purchase.
Near as I can tell, Delta's practice is as follows:
If you cancel flight, credit only with serious time restrictions.
If Delta cancels flight, cash refund.
Delta has announced no fee cancellation or rescheduling for flights through May 31.
We have flights on Delta to London in July, then Air France to East Africa for a safari in July/August. We are hoping Delta extends the policy through July.
Also, hope Air France has the same policy.
