Friends have a home in Eyguieres and I will be there while they will not. Has anyone been to this little town in Provence? Do you have recommendations on other must see locations nearby?
Eyguieres is in the Bouche Du Rhone area. The nearest large town is Salon de Provence (45000 pop.). Eyguieres has lots of fountains and a castle ruin and is a typical small country Provencal town. One neat thing, if you are in Salon in July or August, it has a night market on Fridays those months. They are like an outdoor town fete, with music and food and drink, as well as the market.
Other places within about 50 km of Eyguieres are St. Remy de Provence, Glanum, Les Beaux, Menerbes, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, and Luberon National Park. I assume you will have a car. Menerbes is one of "the most beautiful villages" in France, and many others are nearby. A drive around the countryside will reveal some local wine and olive and honey tastings at small local farms. Produce in the area is outstanding!
Amusez-vous bien!
Thank you Judy! I will look into the towns you mentioned that I haven't yet read about.
We spent a month near there in 2022. This tourist information website was very helpful. https://www.alpillesenprovence.com/en/ (The Alpilles are just to the west of Eyguieres.)
Wow! Eyguieres!!! How I miss it. Our oldest daughter and her family lived in Provence for 10 years, and specifically in Eyguieres for about 4 or 5 years. They relocated to Texas 2 years ago for their jobs. How I miss visiting Eyguieres! It's a lovely small French village where you will have the experience of living in a non-touristy town. You probably won't hear any English spoken.
In addition to the towns that Judy recommended, I can recommend Eygalieres, which is nearby. Eygalieres is another non-touristy lovely village that has a very nice Friday market. And only on Fridays, the restaurants serve a traditional white fish dinner. Delicious! You can take a lovely uphill walk to see some church ruins with beautiful views over the countryside. There is a petanque court by the parking lot near the center where you can watch locals playing petanque.
Other places that are close enough for a daytrip are Aix en Provence and Marseille. We visited many Luberon villages while visiting our daughter, such as Gordes, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Menerbe, Roussillon, L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, and Ansouis.
Depending on how long you will be staying in Eyguieres, I also recommend visiting Gigondas and Bedoin and Mount Ventoux.
Thanks for the interesting info Laurie & kmkwoo; I'll be researching it!
