Many of you already know my son's story getting out of Dubai during the conflict. He has extended his hotel stay where we were, but it's getting very expensive. He is looking for a longer stay March 29-April 19. It seems all the apartments are booked or very expensive. We have tried Citadines, Adaigo, Airbnb, Ibis, Lodgis, Paris Attitude, Fraser, Blue Stay, and various other hotels. Any other suggestions? We are aware it is a busy time in Paris. Having just left I can attest to the crowds of people in the Latin Quarter and St. Germain. Thanks for any input. I have exhausted most of the suggestions, or they require a minimum of 30 days. Maybe he should more on to Nice or somewhere. Will take all suggestions!
It might help for suggestions if you give a budget in Euros.
Do you necissarily have to stay in Paris? Could you stay in a suburb or a nearby city that's connected via rail like Chartres or Rouen?
@Alexander. He prefers to stay in Paris if at all possible so that he can work out of the Paris office as needed. Budget wise, he is looking to stay under 2400 Euros it at all possible.
All I can suggest is to try La Defense. Often you can get decent rates and it's just a step outside of Paris and as easily accessed as most of Paris either on the ligne 1 or RER. These will be in either Courbevoie, Nanterre or Puteaux. Also if you look near La Villette you can find good rates - sometimes steps across the peripherique in Pantin.
Booking.com is currently showing over 40 properties rated very good or better with kitchenette in his budget in the greater Paris area.
Staying in Paris itself means that will be expensive. I would avoid St Germaine, the Latin Quarter, or staying in Ibis or focus on finding only 2 star hotels in the two digit districts, say the 13th or the 19 and 20th.
If I were to do an extended stay , say 4-5 weeks, relatively close by, I would choose Amiens , (within walking from the train station and located in the centre-ville) or Compiegne (next to the station,) , Beauvais, (ca. half between Amiens and Paris, ) or other towns where the daily rate is 40-50 % less than than found in Paris.
You might have to sacrifice , put up with some inconveniences but that is part and parcel of lowering one's daily expense when saving is a priority.
If you're considering going to other towns (since you mention that possibility (Nice) to keep the price down, I would suggest Grenoble, Troyes, Charleville-Mezieres, Maubeuge, Nancy, Luneville, Laon, Toul,
It sounds as if your family drama came to hopeful happy ending! We all were rooting for your son to find his way to you! These last replies sure gave you some expert advice. Hope something works out for him. You must be back home and searching new lodging for his extended work stay! Best wishes again Dad!
Thank you!
If he is willing to sacrifice and lower his expectations, that enhances flexibility. With flexibility more choices and options are available.
In the summer I stay in a 2 star hotel very close to Gare de l'Est, it's spartan, clean and equipped with a good sink , shower. a spacious desk.
Last summer the rate was 75 Euro, now that is up to 85-90 Euro....depending on the day, and month. You pay in cash, even better instead of using the credit card. While it is true, one can find cheap and decent accommodations in Paris in the summer, one has to be flexible to enhance the chances of locating such a place.
Go outside of Paris, such a 2 star place is between 60 to 85 Euro.
March 29 to April 19 is literally Easter and school holidays. You're competing with every family in Europe. Nice isn't going to be much better.
I always use booking.com. Try Pantin, Vincennes or St. Denis. I visit Paris at least once a year and generally every 18 months stay for a month. Pantin was very easy and Vincennes is at the end of one of the best metro lines in Paris.
I am going in July and book my trips at least 6 months out and this year have found Paris very expensive but that appears to be the same for the other cities I will be visiting in europe as well. It is what it is.
MUST he be in Paris. I have friends who now spend a month or two in Lille because it is so much cheaper -- maybe try something more distant. Paris is just expensive. We spent a ridiculous amount on the absolute dump of an Adagio studio 'apartment hotel' when we had an unexpected 5 days in Paris last minute.
There are also very low budget hotels on the fringes. I seem to remember that the Reseda and similar at Gallieni Bagnolet were pretty cheap per day and there is a big grocery store in the mall there and a bakery. It is at the end of line 3. I am sure there are similarly less expensive ones on other Paris edges, this is just an area i have seen.
Vincennes is worth it, the Chateau is famous.
There is bus from Gard du Nord direct to Vincennes as the terminus. I've taken it. The Metro is not the only option.
