Excellent restaurants outside of Avignon

My husband and I are spending 3 nights in Avignon in late April without a car. We have a private tour of Arles, the Luberon, Les Baux, and a wine tour booked on two of the days.

If we wanted to go to dinner at an excellent restaurant in a quaint, smaller town (even St. Remy) outside of Avignon, could we get there by taxi or uber? Or might we get stuck? Also, we would love some restaurant recommendations in Avignon and in towns outside of Avignon. Thank you!

La Chassagnette comes to mind... albeit being an hour outside of Avignon. I went to lunch there one day when staying in Avignon and had an exceptional meal. It is probably the most well reputed restaurant in the area for gastronomy. However, the experience is all the more spectacular at lunch-time.

If you end up going to the Isle sur la Sorgue, the restaurant le Jardin du Quai is very lovely.

We had a bad experience at the Michelin starred restaurant at the Miranda hotel. I can't recommend it. It is perhaps our worst meal to date over the past 3 years... the hotel on the other hand is exquisite.

Check out the Gault & Millau guide for restaurants in smaller towns.

I would also definitely recommend spending a day in Aix-en-Provence.

I don’t know how far you want to drive, but Gordes is about 25 miles from Avignon. You could drive there and explore that lovely town in the afternoon. Then, about 5 minutes outside of Gordes, is La Ferme de la Huppe. It is a quaint bed and breakfast in a restored stone farmhouse that also has an unforgettable bistro. It is written up in a lot of the guide books. lafermedelahuppe.com/le-bistrot
The food, service and setting were beyond fabulous. The only problem is, you’re going to wish you were staying there. Definitely get reservations. They are always full. You could drive to L’Isle-sur-La-Sorgue in the morning and then on to Gordes in the afternoon. A lovely area in which to spend the day
