evening transportation Bayeux-Pontorson-Mont St. Michel

Thanks for responses so far. We are thinking now to take a full day D-Day tour from Bayeux, travel to Pontorson and Mont St. Michel that evening, staying at Mont St. Michel. Is this possible to do without renting a car or getting a private taxi?

I've looked at several sites to try to get an idea of what train schedules might be like this August 2015 and am having some difficulty. I am also wondering if there might be a shuttle, but am having difficulty finding out. Another question that I have is if there is room for luggage.

I was wondering, with the tides and all Laura, if your suggestion was to take a taxi from Pontorson to Mont St. Michel late at night?

Thanks in advance for helping me over the learning curve.

You probably cannot get real August train schedules for a few more months, but they also tend to run the same all year, not very seasonal. On a Monday in May, for example, direct trains depart Bayeux for Pontorson at 7:30, 14:26, and 17:46 and take 2 hours. We generally use the DB web site for train schedules, even though it doesn't sell tickets for France.

That last train arrives at Pontorson at 19:41 (on my test date) and the shuttle bus schedule through July 4 departs Pontorson at 19:50 daily (on Friday nights, there's one more, later). So the shuttle bus should be there and your plan should just be not to dawdle. I don't think you'll need a taxi.

Bayeux train/bus station does not have luggage storage, according to Rick's France book, so you'd have to leave your luggage at your hotel after checking out, which is usually my first choice any way, and should be a free service. Will your D-Day tour be picking and dropping you at the hotel, or a different location?
