Eurostar Rail to Lyon

Does the Eurostar Rail now go from London to Lyon, France? I am looking at the map on pages 1104 - 1105 of the France 2018 book, and it does not show the Eurostar going to Lyon. I believe I was able to buy Eurostar Rail tickets from London to Lyon, so I want to make sure I have good tickets. Thank you.

Well, I would never buy Eurostar tickets anywhere but the Eurostar website. That's partly because I want to see the actual provider's prices, showing cheaper advance purchase (up to three months in advance, probably), and how prices vary during the day I want to travel. Going to their site, I see that they do offer what they say is a "Direct" 6-hour trip to Lyon Part Dieu. I don't call a two-station change in Paris "direct", but that's marketing today! The layovers in Paris seem to be over an hour. But Eurostar seems to imply that you have to get from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon on your own!

In every case I looked at, the second train is marked "SNCF", not "Eurostar". So I think they have simply integrated their schedule engine with the SNCF. That's reasonable, but it is not the same as "Eurostar go to Lyon." I have not been to Lyon, but there do seem to be multiple stations in Lyon (particularly for TGV, which you haven't mentioned.) That may or may not matter to you.

Yes, 4 days a week, 3 May to 16 September 2019 only. Depart 07:15, arrive 13:00

See timetable on Eurostar website here (last page): https://content-static.eurostar.com/documents/446099_Timetables%20Core%20destination_Issue%2082_UK%20EN.pdf

Edit: I think Tim has it wrong. London to Lyon IS a direct train. Lyon to London does require a change in Lille, but that is the same station, not crossing Paris. 07:15 to 13:00 is 4h45 (1 hour time difference), that's fast!

Hi,

Going from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon can be done by the Metro, the RER and the buses, one of which is bus #65. You have a choice.

If you look the timetable the 4 days that the Eurostar operates the service in the season it is a direct train which does not call at Paris, southbound, and a 1 change at Lille train which does not call at Paris. No need to change stations in Paris if using the Eurostar service to Lyon.

If you go outside the season or on a different train or day than the Eurostar service it is not a Eurostar service to Lyon, it is a connecting service with a TGV.

Perhaps it would be helpful to know when Kathy is going, and what it says on her tickets.

I could be wrong for high season (the OP did not give a month ... ) but for Feb, 2019, I did an actual search, and every London-Lyon routing offered for Feb 8, 2019 had a change in Paris. How many searches should I do when the date of the trip is unknown to me?

The German rail site shows one direct train on May 31. The train leaves at 7:19, stops in Folkstone and Lille, and takes 4 hours 41 minutes. With the time zone change, arrival is at 1 PM.

So it appears the answer is yes.

Eurostar does not have a station in Folkestone.

The stop is in Ashford. This is the train identified above as the one in the season. May 31 is within the window.

Kathy, is this what you needed? When is the trip? Do you know about Eurostar check-in in London and other hints in St Pancras International?
