Eurostar Paris-Amsterdam Journey Time Discrepancy

Hi All,

I am looking to buy Eurostar tickets from Paris to Amsterdam for November. I realised that for service ER9321 departing Pars at 9:40am, has different journey duration depending on the month.

Before November, it takes 3 hours and 26min. For November, it takes 4 hours and 26min. Looking at the timetable, it appears it takes 1 hour and 28mins to go from Rotterdam to Schipol, which would generally only take 28 minutes.

Is this a typo or am I missing something?
Thanks

Highly doubtful it is a typo. Perhaps some specific scheduling issue with that time slot with other trains that arrive Rotterdam that time. Can you take an earlier or later train? They run just about every hour.

As far as I can see, looking at the current timetable, the 3 hour trains, incl your ref, marked fast, are direct.
The 4 hour trains involve a change in Brussels.
It may be a schedule change - for example, there are no 3 hour trains in July.

There are never any 3 hour trains, but lots of 3 hour and ~25 minute trains, including in July. The 9:24 train in November is a bit odd, especially considering you can do it in 3 hours and 42 minutes by changing at Rotterdam to the ECD to Schiphol and then changing to a local train to Amsterdam Centraal.

Here are the specifics you need:

In November 2026, engineering works are planned on the HSL-Zuid between Rotterdam and Schiphol, with closures of the HSL (high-speed line) at specific moments meaning no train services will be possible. This will result in longer journey times and revised timetables.
The Eurostar will be diverted via the standard rail network, which will significantly increase journey times.

The answer is indeed engineering on the HSL. And because the trains need to fit within the Dutch train schedule (which repeats every hour) the extra travel time is exactly one hour...
Quite probably the train will spend some time standing in Rotterdam.

Really sorry about my previous comment. I don’t mean to come across as harsh. I travel a lot myself, and when I have questions, I’d like to get the right information without my query on a travel forum turning into a casual chat.

I must also admit that my comments are sometimes misunderstood, and this is probably my own fault, as I am not a native English speaker and can only rely on the school-learned knowledge of this beautiful language ... not to mention the fact that I am probably several decades younger than most of the other participants.

Thanks All, maintenance works seems to be the most likely, however it is quite odd that only one train service is affected.

In particular, I am looking at 2nd November Paris-AMS Eurostar Plus. I will be staying in the Marais area.
I am considering either the 8:25am or 9:25am train, which takes 3 hr 26min and 4 hr 26min respectively.
The 9:25am train allows for a slightly later start, but takes an hour extra. Which train would you recommend?

It is especially interesting, looking at DB, that if you change at Rotterdam (Platform 13 to 12) onto the ICD you arrive at Amsterdam Zuid at 1244, or onto the ECD 10 minutes later, also Platform 12 you arrive at Amsterdam Zuid at 1254.

This only on 2 November- so it is certainly some engineering work north of Rotterdam.

You could also consider leaving on the 10:55 train, which arrives at Amsterdam Centraal only 30 minutes after the 9:24 train does.

10:55 will see the Eurostar Plus price jump to 110euro, the times before 10:55 is 69euro

Are you sure about these amounts? In my opinion, the price is €79 for both the 09:24 and the 10:55 services

Dewl; the prices you mention are these for 1 or 2 tickets? And on what website are you looking?
On the website of NS International, the Dutch national railway company, I see that one ticket for the 10:55 train costs €50.

Apologies, should have mentioned I’m looking at 4 tickets and on the Eurostar website

@Dutch_traveler. 50€ is the price for a 2nd class ticket. OP wants to travel Eurostar Plus, which, on the NS website is named 1st class.

I missed that the OP wants to travel in Eurostar Plus.
@Dewl; it’s up to you of course, but I have travelled in both the regular seats and in Eurostar Plus. The trip in Eurostar Plus was work related and was booked for me by my employer. The trips in the regular seats were for holiday purposes. I honestly didn’t notice much difference between Eurostar and Eurostar Plus. Yes, the seats are a bit wider and have a bit more legroom but that’s about it. I don’t think Eurostar Plus is worth the price difference.

Dewl I've traveled in all of the Eurostar categories and I didn't think the higher classes were worth the extra expense (for me). I'm a no frills traveler though. If cost is the issue, I'd take the earlier train for a few dollars less than the midday train. You can pack a breakfast picnic and get to Amsterdam in time for lunch.
