The European Heritage Days are September 20 and 21, 2014 while we are visiting Paris. How will this affect the tourism during this time? Will Paris be significantly more busy? Would we be better leaving the city to visit Versailles or the Loire Valley during this time to avoid the crowds?

Paris is always busy in September and most of the year, so I doubt that this will change your experience much. If there's a special event, that usually adds to the fun.
