Europcar: renting directly vs thru Kayak

I'm looking at several rentals during our upcoming trip to France, and I'm a little confused. If I look on Europcar's website, renting in Caen, turning in the next day in Rennes, I see a rate of $115. But if I go through Kayak, same car from Europcar, I see a rate of $65. Neither of these include any additional coverage, so I'm having trouble figuring out why the difference is so large. What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Harry

Consolidators often offer better prices than the rental agencies. The preferred way for renting highly recommended by contributors to the forum for price, selection and customer service is Autoeurope.com. They’re located in Maine and have great customer service. But I believe the minimum rental period is 3 days.

Hi,
I rent a car at least once a year while in Europe. I end up using Auto Europe, and they almost always connect me with Europecar. And when I have asked questions about the easiest way to rent a car from where we are staying and get out of "town", they respond as if they have lived their whole life in the neighborhood. Good service, good prices. Book early as reservations are cancelable, then check prices periodically. I found a February 14 special and reduced the cost of my March-April rental substantially.

One little hitch: AutoEurope has a 3-day minimum, so the price quoted will be for 3 days, even if they keep it only one.
